Ft Carson Kids Fishing Day
Post date: Oct 13, 2009 12:35:55 AM
Mark your calendars. The 7th annual Ft. Carson Kids Fishing Day is June 16, 2012. In years past we took about 30-40 kids of deployed Ft. Carson military personnel out for a half day of fishing at Pueblo Reservoir - this year we're looking at 80 kids so we'll be looking for about 45 or more boaters. We need boaters! This has become a big deal for both the families and our boating partners and it's a day everyone looks forward to every year. Some of us met with the Ft. Carson folks last Wednesday, 14 March, 2012. Denver Bassmaster and FLW member Sam Heckman has taken the reins for organizing our volunteer side of things. The Balfour-Beatty Housing people at Ft. Carson will supply the buses and personnel to handle the kids and families. Rumor has it that General Anderson of Ft. Carson may attend.
I am asking for boaters to volunteer, whether it be from our state's bass clubs or the walleye association or other boating volunteers. Hopes Float will participate with their pontoon boat as they have in the past. Anyone who would like to offer their services is welcome and encouraged to participate.
This is a great way to say thank you to the men and women and families for the service they give to us and our great country and allow us to have the freedoms we enjoy. The kids truly love it. Some of the photos that have been taken have been immediately emailed or sent electronically to the deployed parents serving throughout the world. The response has been great.
Modern Woodmen Fraternal Financial is underwriting a large portion of this, including t-shirts for all attendees. Wounded warriors will be in attendance. Famous Dave's BBQ will provide the catered lunch. Sam's Club will supply breakfast foods and drinks for the boaters. Ribbons and medallions as well as trophies for largest, smallest, oddest catch, etc. will be awarded. Rods and reels and bags of supplies (tackle, sunscreen, caps, widgets and gizmos), nightcrawlers, will be given to each child. If you are a company and would like for your company to help out, we gladly welcome anything (donations, etc.) you might afford to offset our expenses.
Boaters will need to arrive early for boat inspections - starting at 6 am. Fishing will be from about 8 am to noon. This will be fun and very rewarding. Let's again help these kids and families have a memorable day. More info will be available as we near the event date.
Sincerly,
Tom Grace - DBM President
